“Valkyria Chronicles Interview”

If a game looks really promising, we’ll pass on our excitement.

Although the game doesn’t officially release until November, Sega is throwing a Valkyria Chronicles party in San Francisco’s Metreon store.

The game hopes to mix strategy, action and role-playing elements in a fictional world inspired by 1930’s Europe.

If you’re new to the game, this is a great introduction to the CANVAS engine that powers the game as well as the basic storyline about military powers struggling to gain control over Ragnite, a precious mineral that powers most of the world’s technology.

Most likely, the American version of Valkyria Chronicles will feature the same post-launch DLC as its Japanese counterpart.

The second installment of DLC from Sega is pretty cool: it lets you play as Selvaria, as you try to invade Galiia.

Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles is one of the more intriguing titles due this fall, and producer Ryutaro Nonaka’s in San Francisco this week to help promote the visually stunning tactical-role-playing game.

An in-depth chat with Valkyria producer Ryutaro Nonaka.

Our first look at Sega’s PS3 exclusive shooter.

Sega’s upcoming Valkyria Chronicles has everything a PS3 fan could want: not only is is pretty, it sports a unique artstyle, innovative gameplay… and it’s exclusive to PS3.

The characters in this game can be separated to two different groups; important characters tied closely to the story, and characters who only take part in the battles.

Tanaka: In RPG and simulation games, enemies won’t attack in the player’s turn.

The PS3 has needed some RPG for ages and this looks to be an exemplary game.

Set during a fictional European War, this RPG features action and strategy elements.

Lavish environments are promised in this PS3 exclusive, and in a bid to find out if Sega can pull off this unusual concept, we cornered producer Ryutaro Nonaka and Japanese version director Shuntaro Tanaka for a chin-wag.

1UP: The other big element of Sakura Taisen, in addition to war, is the simulation element the relationship-building with your team members.

First up, in August, you can download “Hard EX” mode which is, well, harder than Hard mode.

Not in the sense of the main character building his relationship with the others, but in the hidden potential that lies within each of the characters you meet.

Out this November, Valkyria Chronicles is an ambitious new Sega release, developed in Japan.
