“Wario Land: Shake It Preview”

If a game looks really promising, we’ll pass on our excitement.

To be honest I can understand that by the umptenth game you review you might feel a little cranky and it may feel like you played the same game just hours ago on a different system.

His big solo debut on the Wii appears as goofy as ever; get ready to shake it.

Wario returns to the Nintendo Wii console with Wario Land: Shake It!, a classic side-scrolling action game.

This side-scrolling gem is instantly magical: it’s the kind of game that feels like something you played 20 years ago.

With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages.

Over the years, Wario has been featured in his own numerous adventures across Nintendo’s handhelds and consoles, and he’s made plenty of cameos in other games as well.

It’s been a while since the last Wario Land title hit the Game Boy Advance in 2001, but the gross and greasy anti-hero hasn’t lost his greed or his charm.

The game has five main worlds, with about seven to eight stages in each world and a few secret areas.

Here are our Wario Land: Shake It!

Physically, Wario Land could have been made for almost any platform.

Game storyline: Wario receives an antique globe and telescope that allow him to travel to the once-idyllic Shake Dimension, now conquered by the tyrannical pirate, the Shake King.

Don’t fret, though the Wii Remote-based elements are tasteful and effective.

Aside from the usual whacking, butt stomping, and other typical melee shenanigans Wario fans are accustomed to, the game will incorporate many different puzzles and other elements that complement the Wii Remote’s range of control possibilities.

The control layout is pure classic Nintendo: hold the Wii remote sideways, use the D-pad, and press the 1 and 2 buttons.

This time he’s lured through the promise of fame and fortune into helping the captured Queen Merelda and her diminutive subjects, the Merfles, escape the clutches of the piratical Shake King who’s taken to invading their peaceful world of Yuretopia.
